The best choice for all seasons and trends.
Looking through my wardrobe for next season (I always do this with every changing season), I noticed that one of my recurring and favourite pieces on my looks were my denim trousers – which might be also the common choice for most of the population, because a pair of denim is very democratic, practical, goes from the casual to elegant and works for all ages – is there any reason not to love it? But those who know me, know that I love skirts and dresses, so this fact caught my attention.
I am going through an “accordion” moment, because I gained some weight and lost it in a short period of time (mainly due to the lack of routine and the crazy schedule of my work life. I’m already working to remedy this situation, but this is subject for another post), and jeans has the flexibility to help during these periods of change, besides being a piece that has been part of the fashion scenario for years.
What are my jeans choices and why?
First of all, I not always follow all trends. I mostly follow what makes me comfortable and what fits my style, and my day-to-day. Having said that, one of the items that I do not use anymore are low waist jeans – I don’t think it looks good on me, and even though I love them, they make me uncomfortable, so I abandoned this style for the high and medium waist jeans.
In my choices, I also use other factors to decide – I look for items without or with very little elastane, I prefer a fabric with minimal interference. This does not mean that I use pieces without any stretch – I only prefer more tradicional jeans.
The main benefit of jeans is that they accompany my wardrobe any season of the year.
Levis 501 (Classic and vintage)
These trousers dress well both men and women. I personally prefer the buttons version that the zipper option. It suits any body type, has an amazing durability and the more you use it and wash it, it becomes more and more beautiful and comfortable.
Straight
This one is also on my list of favourites, because, as well the ones above, they dress perfectly in most people. It values the silhouette, and if it has a small percentage of elastane, it becomes even more comfortable. And I also opt for the high wait version.
“MOM”
This is a style with a higher waist, a perfect fit, and it follows the shape of the hip and tones a bit more in the leg. I think it fits perfectly. I believe that the name they’ve given to this model might put people off from trying it – and they miss out on the opportunity to try something wonderful.
High Waist (real high waist)
If there is something I love is a pair of trousers with really high waist, reaching up to your belly button or even higher (really high). There is a Brazilian brand that makes the most beautiful denim trousers and they have a perfect fit – the brand is Amapô. It has a lot of models, but the high waist are my favourites. The flared option is my absolute favourite, it has a 70s style attached to it, but very modern at the same time, and when I use I feel gorgeous.
Crop
This is a model that I had never used before (I bought my first a year ago), and it has different styles from the same model. The main difference of this type of jeans is that it is shorter, but because of the “pantacourt” (which was one of my options for the latest seasons), I decided to try the crop jeans. It looks like a pantaloon but slightly shorter on the legs. I was surprised with the fit, and it also transitioned very well between seasons.
Boyfriend
One of my favourites, I love looking for this model in thrift stores (especially in the mens session). This model has a more “masculine” cut, oversized, a little larger than other models. It might not be the most popular because it has a very particular look to it, but I think it looks amazing with tennis shoes and a t-shirt. And if you want to give a slight elegant edge to it, just add a blazer and switch the shoes for high heel shoes or sneakers.
Skinny
I believe this is one of the most popular type of jeans among all. I really like skinny jeans, but they are not my favourite – however, I do use them a lot. I opt for a model that is not so tight, to make it a little more comfortable. It’s practical, works on all body types and different styles.
Besides the types I mention above, which are my main daily choices, there are a lot of other models available out there (bootcut, flare, jogging, etc.). Look for the one that makes you feel comfortable and happy.
I am always looking for items that highlight different information. And by that I mean, pieces with different denim washes, stones, parts, embroidery, rips and wear, all things that make that piece slightly more unique.
As well as colour, that always make the jeans look different.
Speaking of jeans, we don’t live on trousers, so I also love denim jackets, skirts, shorts (especially those made with old trousers). Where demin as much as you like, tae advantage of #doubledenim which is nothing more than using denim both on top and bottom of your outfit, which I think looks amazing and stylish.
I made a list with my favourite jeans of the moment. What to know which they are and find a great option to buy? Visit my shop page and check out!
