Padella opened not so long ago, right next to Borough Market. It’s a small place, but with a lot of style and an open kitchen concept where you can see the whole preparation process as it happens.
This restaurant is a dream come true for chefs Tim and Jordan, a restaurant/bar that serves fresh pasta, with delicious sauces and fillings inspired by their trips to Italy. They are also owners of another restaurant called Trullo.
A great service, with an amazing fair price and mouth-watering pasta. And due to all of this merits, you can expects a queue outside of the restaurant – but I promise – it’s worth the wait. I can guaranty it’s already one of my absolute favourites here in London.
It has a concise and seasonal menu , there is a good selection of starters, mains and desserts, for every taste.
As a starter I usually choose the burrata (I’m trying burratas at every restaurant that has them – and Padella’s is a great choice). But the beef carpaccio is also a great option.
It’s always hard to choose a main, so I will recommend one of my favourites (it’s important to mention here that the menu changes and they are always including new dishes).
Number one in my list is the ragu Pappardelle. The pasta is ‘al dente’ with the best sauce I’ve tried all my life (and I’m not exaggerating).
Another great option is the Tagliarini with a 2017 Chiarentana Estate olive oil and parmesan cheese. A simple combination of cheese and olive oil that makes for a delicious dish.
The Pici Cacio and Pepe is a classic from Trullo – and it’s a perfect surprise.
And I cannot forget to mention the Tagliarini with crab, in case you have a craving for seafood, as well as the ravioli and the gnocchi.
I’m on a mission to try all of their dishes – and every time I see a new dish in their menu, I want to go to Padella’s and try it.
And the desserts are also great – and of course a beautiful selection of Italian and house wines.
The main highlight for this restaurant is that the pasta is made fresh. The kitchen prepares each dish as they come in (another reason for the long quiue outside). But the service is fast and attentive. And, of course, the pasta is wonderful.
If you live in London, Padella is a restaurant that is worth visiting. And if you’re just visiting and looking for an amazing meal with a great price, Padella is the best option. You might just see me there, since I’m almost every week over there so I can try a new dish from the menu or the special of the day!
